Hi Lex, nice to hear from a fellow timpani addict! Do you play in an orchestra at the moment? And do you play other percussion as well? Wow, owning real Schnellars, that ranks you on top my timpani afficionado list :) I haven't been playing that long yet; switched from singing & flute to percussion two years ago, and I find that percussion technique doesn't come very naturally to me. Still enjoying it though, currently preparing parts of Daniel Jones' timpani sonata for the next concert of my percussion group.

I've seen Randy Max play once in Rotterdam, about 15 years ago. I can't remember much of it, except that he played with felt gloves.

Hartelijke groeten,

Maaike

hello Maaike, nice website. We bot share passion for timpani.
I became a surgeon but took lessons from Loet Talboom, solo timpanist of the Rdam Phil for many years. In my collection I also have 2 of these Altenburg timpani but by real pride is the 2 original Schnellar salon timps which are also on Nick website. When speaking about playing complex pieces in piano/pianissimo, try to see my friend Randy Max in the Rdam Phil, he is fabulous. And I would also recommend to see Michael Vladar in Vienna playing on his Schuster drums, no tuning gauches, no pedals, everything done by hand and ear. BYe for now, Lex.
