Linguist & timpani addict. After 25 years of singing as a soprano in amateur choirs and projects, I decided to have a go at the timpani. On 17 September 2008, I took my first lesson, and after my first beat, I was completely hooked. This blog replaces my real-life paper notes that I used for keeping track of the musical and linguistics stuff that keeps throwing itself in front of me.

So, what’s with the name?

Not that much really. Nerdy explanations: the klangmodus, or clang mode, of a tuning fork is a mode in which it vibrates with a frequency which is around 6 times the frequency of the fundamental. Klang association is a disorder in which someone associates words on sounds, rather than semantics. Klang is also a royal town in Malaysia. It’s German for sound.
But basically: tuning is one of my favorite activities, don’t ask why. I carry a tuning fork on me most of the time, much to the amazement of some people. Klang is the sound it makes when I hit it on my head. And 440 is the outcome.
